A blessing by John Smith, Patriaarch, upon the head of Patience Drake, daughter of John & Hannah perkins, born Dec 19, 1784, Windsor county, Vermont.:
Sister patience I lay my hands on thy head and seal a fathers blessing upon thee in the name of JEsus Christ, the Lord, having appointed me to bless thee. Then less in as much as thou hast embraced the Gospel in thy old age, left thy native land at the commandment of the Lord, thy name is written in the lambs Book of Life. Angels are appointed to guard thee while thou are in the flesh. They shall minister unto thee and thou shalt converse with them. Thy children shall become exceeding numerour, thou shall have faith to heal in thine house and thy name shall be held in honorable rememberance in the house of Isreal. Thou shalt have the Priesthood in fullness in common with thy companion and be able with him to do all you desire to. Shall live to a good old age; have part in the first reserection with thy companion and children and all thy fathers house for thou are of the same blood with thy companion and in as much as thou are faithful thou shalt inherit eternal life, Amen.
