Source 1: The History & Genealogy of The Prentice Family in New England by Binney;
This source claims that John Prentice had a child, Rufus, B: 1762 in Douglas. It would be virtually impossible for John, age 71 to have a child born in that time frame, unless he married a (2) wife who was considerally younger than him; Therefore, this child, Rufus, or his stated birthdate is in question. I have put him in the family, but have doubts about the date of his birth.

Luke Prentice, the souce for Binnys data told Binny that he had a bond of Daniel Elliots of Sutton, to John Prentice of Canterbury, Windham, Connecticut, dated 9 October 1737; (Luke thought John Prentice may have removed from Preston to Canterbury, Connecticuit and had his last five children were born in Canterbury.)

Source 2: Middlesex Co. Records: (Printed in Binneys Book) John Prentis, of Preston County of New London, Colony of Connectiut, Husbandman, and Ebenezer Prentis of Newton, Blacksmith- deed to Timothy Whitney, of Newton, Husbandman, Land and dwelling-house in Newton, Land located by Edward Prentices Land; Elizabeth Prentice, our mother, also joins, and Edward Prentice to have a way through the land. (no date is given-will look up this record and get the date)

Ebenezer Prentice of Newton, Massachusetts, Blacksmith, and John Prentice of Preston, New London, Connecticuit, husbandman, heirs of the late Thomas Prentice; They Convey house and land in Newton...etc.
(No date for this transaction)

Source 4: History of Newton, Massachusetts
John Prentice, son of Thomas (d> 1721), in 1703 bought eighteen acres of land in Newton of John parker. He was called in the deed a cordwainer. In 1718, under the name of Physician, he conveyed to Nathaniel Longley part of the same land. He must have relinquished the care of the shoes for the care of the bodies of his fellow-citizens at some date between 1703-1718.

John Prentice may have had a child Rufus by a 2nd wife; The source says Rufus was born about 1762, making John about 72 when born; Elizabeth would have been too old to have had this child; This child is not proven and I have not listed him on the family group sheet for John Prentice & wife Elizabeth;
