Will, dated 1 July 1600, probated, 16 July 1600, for Richard Gillett of Caudle Haddon, Dorset, husbandman. he listed sons, Richard & William, which satisfies the chronological & geographical requirements of the father of William Glettte. Wife Alice: to be buried in the courtyard of Caudle; to the poor of Caudle, 2s; to son William, 10; to son Edward at end of his apprenticeship, 5; to dau.Mary at merriage, 10; to children of son Richard, 10s parted between them; to son-in-law William Sheppard one brasse pan; and to the latters son William, 2/6; residue to wife Alice & son John equally;they to be executors; Witnesses: William Appkyn, William Adames, Richard Same, Robert Grannte; In presence of me William Swett,curate of that Place; Also that it mentions sons, William & Richard (Rev. William & his brother Richard) The will mentions a son-in-law William Sheppard & his son William, indicating that another daughter, who is probably deceased and whose given name is not mentioned, was also born into this family. She must have been an older child;

The Gillette name was originally spelled Gylett. If the above will is indeed the will of Richard Gillette then he had 2 wives; Wife (2) is called Alice in his will; She was alive on 1 July 1600; (Therefore I have determind that the children belong to (1) wife, Joan Esberg.)
