SPENCER PHILLIPS & DORCAS

CHRONOLOGY OF SPENCER PHILLIPS & DORCAS
(Spencer is son of Richard Phillips & Ruth Pitts; He is my 4th great grandfather on my Ellenor Phillips line & Drake line)

In 1811 Franklin Co. was formed from Hampshire Co. and Ashfield was officially placed in Hampshire County; All court records before 1811 are found in Northampton, the Shire Town for Hampshire County. Pre-1787 land deed records are at Springfield

Many Records we have found concerning Spencer Phillips family, place Ashfield in Franklin Co. which wasn't created from Hampshire Co. until 1811! In this chronology, for accuracy, I have placed records for Spencer Phillips family which occurred the town of Ashfield before 1811, in Hampshire Co.

Dorcas was called Mrs Dorcas Flower when she married Spencer;
The surname of Dorcas is unknown with certainty at this writing; However, the name may be Smith; A reason for this supposition can be found in an 1815 land transaction in which Dorcas relinquishes her right of dowery;
Additional research for Dorcas is needed;

Spencer’s father, Richard Phillips & his family, removed to Hampshire Co. about 1762 according to early land grants. Spencer would have been about 7 years old when the family made this move.

Dorcas’ daughter Ellenor (by her (2) husband Spencer Phillips), and mother of my Grandmother Amanda who married Peter Batrick may have named my grandmother Amanda Bathrick after this Amanda who is her mother Ellenor’s step-sister)

My grandmother Dorcas’ two children by her first husband were just young children when their father died; My grandfather no doubt helped raise them.
